Smatek is pleased to announce that we have become a KNX member, marking another step in our continued development of wall-mounted touch panel platforms for building automation projects.

KNX is widely used in residential, commercial, hotel, apartment, and building automation applications. For many customers, a wall-mounted touch panel is an important interface between the user and the automation system. It can provide local access to functions such as lighting, dimming, curtains, HVAC, scenes, and room-control visualization.

By becoming a KNX member, Smatek aims to continue strengthening our work around KNX touch panel solutions and KNX-TP hardware platform directions.

Supporting Different KNX Touch Panel Directions

Smatek supports different KNX touch panel directions depending on the customer’s project model.

For customers who need a more complete KNX room-control interface, Smatek provides ready-to-use KNX touch panel options with Smatek KNX software and ETS configuration support for common room automation functions.

For customers with their own KNX software, UI, or system logic, Smatek also supports open KNX-TP platform directions. In this model, Smatek provides the wall-mounted hardware platform and KNX TP communication base, while the customer keeps control of its own application, user interface, and ecosystem logic.

This distinction is important because KNX projects do not all follow the same development model. Some customers need a practical panel solution for project installation, while others need a hardware platform for their own branded product or software-driven automation system.

KNX Touch Panels for Building Automation Projects

A KNX touch panel can be used as a fixed room-control interface in different project environments, including smart homes, apartments, hotels, offices, and commercial buildings.

Typical control functions may include:

  • Lighting control
  • Dimming and color temperature adjustment
  • Curtain or blind control
  • HVAC and air conditioning control
  • Fresh-air system control
  • Floor heating control
  • Scene control
  • Room status visualization

For building automation projects, the touch panel is not only a display. It is part of the user experience, installation environment, and system architecture.

This is why Smatek focuses on hardware platform development, installation structure, system preparation, and project-specific customization support in addition to the standard product direction.

Continuing Our Platform-Based Approach

Smatek’s role is to support customers as a wall-mounted touch panel hardware platform partner.

For customers developing their own automation products, Smatek can provide Android, Linux, and KNX-related platform directions, while customers retain control of their own software, UI, cloud platform, and system logic.

Depending on the project requirements, Smatek can support discussions around:

  • KNX touch panel product direction
  • KNX-TP open platform development
  • Android or Linux system base
  • Screen size and hardware configuration
  • Power architecture
  • Interface layout
  • Housing and installation structure
  • Firmware preparation
  • Branding and OEM/ODM customization

Becoming a KNX member supports Smatek’s continued involvement in the KNX ecosystem and reflects our long-term interest in building automation interface products.

Looking Ahead

As smart home and building automation projects continue to evolve, wall-mounted control interfaces are becoming more than simple switch replacements. They are increasingly used as shared room interfaces, visualization points, and hardware platforms for customer-developed software and automation logic.

Smatek will continue to develop KNX touch panel options and open hardware platform directions for customers who need reliable wall-mounted interfaces for residential, hotel, apartment, and commercial building automation projects.

Customers interested in KNX touch panel solutions, KNX-TP platform directions, or customized wall-mounted control panel development are welcome to contact Smatek to discuss their project requirements.
